Program
You will be picked up from your hotel at 6:30 a.m., to go to the port of Puno at Titicaca Lake. After a 1 hour motorboat ride, you will arrive at the floating islands of the Uros, located at a distance of 6 km from the port. Uros is a community consisting of more than 40 islands. It is quite ancient settlement and the ancestors of the Indians have been living here since pre-Incan period. The islands are built of totora reeds, which grows in the lake in abundance. The houses of island inhabitants, their boats and many other things are made of the same material. It is also used as a firewood and even as a food.
We will spend about 1,5 hours in the islands and will visit some of them. You can additionally book the ride on the famous rafts of reeds.
Then we will have another boat ride to Taquile island. This is a narrow stone island (only about 1 km wide, but 6 to 7 km long) with numerous pre-Inca and Inca ruins and Inca terracing. The island is densely populated. Local Indians (Quechua) will meet you, show their style of life and will dance their national dances. Then we will climb the hill (the altitude of the island is more than 260 meters), have a lunch in a local cooperative restaurant and will descend to the other side of the island, where our motor boat will be waiting to take us back to the port.
We will return to Puno at about 17.30.
