Day 01: Puno – Chivay - Yanque (trekking, and hot springs)
You will be picked-up from your hotel in Puno between 6:15 and 6:25am to begin our trip to the Colca’s National Park. Our first stop will be in “Lagunillas”, an astonishing place where you will see migratory birds like flamingos, ibis, Andean geese, ducks and Andean eagles (“Kara Kara”).
Then we’ll continue into the National Reserve of Salinas and Aguada Blanca (Pampas Canahuas) where we’ll make small stops to see the beautiful vicunas in their natural habitat.
Afterwards we’ll move along Pataguas where you’ll se Puruna’s stone forest, formed by natural erosion. Here, half-way done, we’ll make a stop to use the restrooms and drink some coca tea.
After 15 min we’ll continue into Vizcachani and the wetlands of Toccra, where you’ll see: alpacas, llamas and different varieties of wild birds. The next place we’ll visit will be Patampampa, the highest point of the trip with 4900 m.a.s.l. From here one is able to see the Chila Mountains, as well as the volcanoes: Ampato, Sabancaya, Hualca Hualca and Mismi (considered as the origin of the Amazon River).
From this point on we’ll begin to descend into the Colca’s National Park, first arriving at Chivay where we’ll have lunch. Afterwards we’ll head to our hotel: Killawasi Lodge, in the town of Yanque (fifteen minutes from Chivay). There you will be installed in a Junior Suite, comfortable rooms surrounded by beautiful scenery with private balconies or terraces. All rooms are equipped with remote controlled electric heating, clock-radio supporting iPod and Mp3 players, wireless internet, spacious bathroom with hot water 24-hours, orthopedic mattresses, cotton sheets and towels, hypoallergenic pillows and all the amenities necessary to make your stay an unforgettable experience.
In the afternoon you could rest and relax in your private balconies or terraces; or if you wish, you could start with us a guided trek of approx. three hours. During this trek we’ll visit Oqolle’s Amphitheater (Pre-Inca terraces), we’ll cross the Sifon Bridge (where you’ll see the colcas) and arrive at the Uyu Uyu ruins, from where you will see a panoramic view of the Canyon and the town of Yanque.
Finally before returning to the hotel we’ll visit Yanque’s hot waters located on the banks of the Colca River. After relaxing in its waters we’ll head back to the hotel where you’ll be able to enjoy a delicious dinner.
Optional: If you don’t like to do the trekking in the afternoon, you can enjoy a horse ride for extra cost ($15.00 x hour x person). We recommend two hours ride. This service has to be book at the same time of your reservation.
Day 02: Yanque- The Condor’s Cross - Arequipa
At 6:00 am a tasty breakfast will be served in the hotel’s restaurant and then we’ll leave for the viewpoint “Cruz Del Condor” where we’ll stay for about two hours. In this beautiful place one can feel the magnitude of the Colca Canyon by seeing it in all its deepness and immensity. Moreover, you’ll be able to see the flight of the condor at a very close range.
During the return we’ll pass through the towns of Pinchollo, Maca and Achoma. There, we’ll see archeological remains, Pre-Inca agricultural terraces and astonishing panoramic views of the canyon.
We’ll reach Chivay around 12:15 pm. And after enjoy a delicious lunch and a short break we will return to the city of Arequipa, arriving at 5:00 pm. In Arequipa we will leave you in your hotel, airport, or at the Main Plaza.
